You run the business. We keep the books, file what needs filing and tell you what the numbers mean, for an agreed monthly fee and without the jargon.

What makes your finances different.
Everything lands on the owner
Invoicing, chasing payments, receipts, VAT and payroll all compete with the actual work. Most small business owners do their bookkeeping late at night, and it shows at year end.
Cash and profit are not the same
A profitable quarter can still leave the bank account empty once VAT, Corporation Tax and payments on account fall due. Knowing what is yours to spend is the hard part.
The rules change every April
Rates, thresholds and filing requirements move each tax year. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax started in April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with income over £50,000, and it widens each year.
Fees are hard to compare
Hourly billing makes a simple question expensive. We quote in writing for an agreed scope, so you know the cost before the work starts.
What we do for you.
- Set up or tidy your Xero or QuickBooks account and connect bank feeds
- Keep the bookkeeping up to date weekly, monthly or quarterly
- Prepare and file year-end accounts and the Corporation Tax return, or your Self Assessment if you are a sole trader
- Register you for VAT at the right time and file quarterly returns under Making Tax Digital
- Run payroll and workplace pension submissions for you and any staff
- Send a short monthly summary of profit, cash and what is owed to HMRC
- Remind you of every deadline and what we need before it
- Answer the questions that come up between year ends, without a clock running
The tax rules that matter here.
- VAT registration threshold
- You must register once taxable turnover passes £90,000 in any rolling 12 months. Registering voluntarily below that can suit businesses whose customers are VAT registered.
- Corporation Tax rates
- Companies pay 19% on profits up to £50,000 and 25% from £250,000, with marginal relief between the two. The effective rate on each extra pound in that band is 26.5%.
- Employment Allowance
- Employers with at least one employee paid above the secondary threshold can reduce employer's National Insurance by up to £10,500 a year. Companies where the director is the only employee cannot claim it.
- Annual Investment Allowance
- Spending on most plant, equipment and computers qualifies for 100% relief in the year of purchase, up to £1 million. Cars are treated differently.
- Payments on account
- Sole traders with a Self Assessment bill over £1,000 pay half of next year's estimated tax in advance, on 31 January and 31 July. The first year can feel like paying one and a half years at once.
Rules and rates are those in force for 2026/27 at the time of writing. Check your own position before acting.
Run your own numbers first.
- VAT calculator
Add VAT to a net price, or strip it out of a gross figure.
- Salary vs dividend calculator
Find the most tax-efficient mix of salary and dividends from your company's profit.
- Corporation Tax calculator
Corporation Tax on your profit, including marginal relief.
Worth asking.
Most London small businesses pay between £100 and £300 a month for bookkeeping, accounts and tax filings combined, depending on transaction volume, VAT and payroll. We quote in writing for an agreed scope rather than billing by the hour, and the quote form takes a few minutes.
The software records transactions; it does not know whether they are right, what is allowable or when a threshold is about to bite. An accountant checks the books, files the returns and advises on the decisions. Most of our clients use the software daily and leave the rest to us.
Yes. Once you confirm you would like to move, we write to your previous accountant for professional clearance and the handover records, and we set up the HMRC authorisations. You do not need to have a difficult conversation, and the timing can be arranged around your year end.
It depends on profit, risk and plans. On 2026/27 rates a company no longer saves tax if you draw out all the profit, so the case for one rests on leaving profit in the business, pension contributions, limited liability and how customers see you. A company also brings extra filing and costs. We model both on a discovery call.
HMRC charges an automatic £100 penalty for a late Self Assessment return, rising after three months, and Companies House penalties for late accounts start at £150 and double for a second late year. We track every deadline for clients and ask for records well ahead of time.
Yes. Because records sit in cloud software, location rarely matters. Most clients work with us by phone, video and email, and meet us at City Road when it is useful.
